ABOUT

The PNG Canoeing Association is the official governing body for the sport of canoeing (including sprint, slalom, and traditional outrigger canoeing) in Papua New Guinea. Our mission is to promote, develop, and regulate canoeing across the nation, celebrating our rich maritime heritage while achieving international sporting excellence.

 

Our History

 

Canoeing is deeply embedded in the culture of Papua New Guinea. The Association was established to bridge this traditional legacy with modern competitive sport. Since its inception, we have been dedicated to:

• Preserving Tradition: Honoring the ancestral knowledge and craft of traditional PNG canoes.

• Developing Athletes: Providing coaching, training, and competition opportunities for athletes at all levels, from grassroots to elite.

• International Representation: Preparing and sending the nation's best paddlers to regional and international events, such as the Pacific Games and Olympic qualifiers.

• Community Engagement: Using the sport to foster water safety, healthy lifestyles, and community spirit.
